SALT began as an exhibition of garments and art, with a focus on technique and highlighting the hand of the maker. Kate and her business partner Kat Walsh each showcased a body of art, textiles and conceptual garments to examine how fashion can exist outside the consumer driven industry.
The event also included a pop-up shop featuring limited exclusive collections from twelve other young creatives with similar focuses, plus ready to wear pieces by Kat and Kate.
Following the success of SALT's first event, Kate and Kat held another pop up shop at Indooroopilly Shopping Centre's Best of Brisbane Style and Design Markets.
SALT aims to foster close relationships between consumers, makers and their products. These relationships will increase the perceived value of fashion items and encourage more thoughtful purchasing. SALT strives to slow down the fashion cycle through the promotion of conscious consumption.
