About katalyst

KATALYST brings a thoughtful approach to design and use of materials through zero- to low-waste pattern making and beginning the design process with the question, ‘how can we best showcase every bit of this fabric?’

Designer Kate Evans employs experimental pattern making and fitting techniques that push the idea of what shape a garment, and in particular a staple, can be. The brand hopes to inspire people to incorporate these pieces into their everyday wardrobes.

Conscious use of materials, consumption and transparency around supply chain are at the forefront of the brand. We believe it’s the responsibility of designers in the contemporary world to not just create beautiful pieces, but for availability of materials, waste reduction and transparency to inform pieces from the outset. I am transparent with customers and encourage conversations surrounding supply chain, costing and making considered purchases through open communication and personalised fit/fabric offerings. We hope that with is approach, KATALYST can educate about conscious consumption in an approachable way.

The goal of KATALYST is to create durable and interesting pieces of clothing that are comfortable and can be styled in many ways for diversity and longevity — versatile garments that withstand the busy lives of the wearer and hold up against the extreme Australian climate.

Katalyst is a fashion label established by designer
Kate Evans in meanjin (Brisbane), Australia.

Kate operates out of her small studio in Red Hill, designing and producing pieces to order.

The brand is driven by Kate’s passion for textiles and detail-oriented design. Through a small catalogue of styles, Katalyst elevates wardrobe staples through high technical execution and abstract ideas.

Explorations in visual art and experimental textiles allow Kate to explore ideas that inform her designs.

Driven by a desire to create a strong relationship between consumers and their clothes, Kate’s passion for textiles and detailed design permeates each product.
